Pyzel Precious Cream Futures

Season:UNS

Brand:Pyzel Surfboards

Code:PYZ-PRE-CRE-FUT

The Pyzel Precious is an alteration stemming from the Gremlin, with a more streamlined and performance profile with a inclusion of a stepdeck.

Pyzel boards can be custom made to size with a 4 week turnaround, with a custom Pyzel colour to choose from. Just get in touch with us to find out more.

We reccommend the John John Thruster Fins with this board, but can also be ridden as a quad.

"After extensive team “testing” by Jai Glindeman, also known as having a great time surfing the crap outta them, we are happy to announce the release of our 3rd addition to the Velocity Project series, the Precious. The step-railed, concave-decked Precious came about when a friend asked me for a one board quiver that he could take around the world and have a good surf on. “One board to rule them all” was the call and thus the name Precious came about (Lord of the Rings nerds will get this, everyone else just don’t worry about it)."

"The Precious is based it off of the Gremlin, since that board is so fast, versatile and fun, but we wanted it to be sleeker, more towards a performance feel with less width and less chunky rails. In order to do that, and still keep a fair bit of volume in the board, we decided to make it a step-deck. This allowed us to keep some foam in the overall board, but let it have a sensitive, high performance rail at the same time. When creating the step-deck it also makes the deck concave, which adds stability and more sensitivity to the design, and it seems to give you a little extra boost of paddle power as a side benefit."

Using the Gremlin DNA, it’s a step down with flatter entry rocker, and subtle curve through the tail making for easy acceleration, speed and quick, responsive turning. The outline is narrower and more pulled in than the Gremlin, but it still carries speed through slower, weaker sections, allowing improved flow and effortless glide. The single/double concave bottom gives lift and drive without ever feeling sticky in rail-to-rail transitions, and the ample V running of the wide tailblock let it tip onto it’s rail with ease, even at higher speeds.
The Precious is an easy paddler that gets up and goes fast, and still has a snappy, drivey, high-performance feel to get you the most out of every kind of wave.

  • I'm 53, 83 kg 5' 6" (typical Welsh pocket rocket 🤣) surfed since 1980, countless Indo, Euro trips etc, have 6 boards I ride, always liked a longer thruster,,, I'm stumped when it comes to board volume?? What should I be looking for? Sorry for the essay just wanted to confirm I'm no beginner 👍🤣
Question asked by Spike Thomas on 22/10/2024 20:41:54
Hi Spike! As you've been a surfer for 40 years you'll know volume has only become prominent in modern surfing times. It isn't the most vital thing in the world to get right / something you have to religiously stick to, to be honest most of it is rubbish! Years ago nobody used volume. One of our shapers doesn't even write it on the boards. Yes of course when you are surfing super high performance boards, volume can make a big difference. But for the vast majority 95% of surfers that aren't surfing super high performance you have to use the other aspect of the board to decide what to go for. Despite everything you read online telling you exactly which board to buy based on the volume alone. Don't trust it. Use volume as a guideline to see how it compares to other boards you're surfing. Volme means nothing when the shape or length of a board is different to what you're used to. Take this board in particular, the Precious has the bulk of the volume in body and not in the rails (the Stepdeck) this will really change how it feels compared to a shortboard with the same volume. You may feel you need less or more volume because of this change.

It's hard to get right off of tech specs alone which is why as an old school surf shop we believe in 'try before you buy' as this is really the only way to see if it works for you before spending loads of money on a board. This is especially crucial for niche style boards like the Precious that you can't compare to anything else unless you have surfed a stepdeck or similar style board before because you'll have no experience to go off. If you can come down to us at any point to try it, it's worth the trip to see! You'll always see nearly new/hardly used second hand boards selling online because nobody tried them first and then they lose money re-selling them. Try not to make this mistake because of companies marketing you a board telling you which to buy based off the volume.

In short: don't worry about volume and try boards out first if you can!

    Hope this helps
